Anyone heard any updates on these? We're passed the release date, so maybe they're close to being released? Would love to add two of these to my two Helios 69-500's.

That's not the 500 version...no telling when the 500 will be out...

I'm slightly confused.... being of the old school when these 760's first appeared they were Audio & Design products. The company still exists if you Goggle it.

So what is the connection with Helios...?

They were common to find installed in Helios desks.

Apparently Helios consoles are like the Borg- anything installed becomes assimilated...

Yes, I have a Helios branded one (original).
This clone/reissue is hardly a new product (yet).
It's been discussed for months if not years on this board. I assume it's about to become a reality though, but still premature for the 'New Product Alert' forum.

Why?

Because generally the rule seems to be 'New Product Alert' is reserved for something available, or imminently available:

That "rule" never seemed to stop Slate, or quite a few others that I'm still waiting for.

But if you search Gearslutz for F760, you'll find this particular product discussed many times.
For example in July just gone:

At this point in time, there is nothing that makes this a 'new product' until it actually looks like appearing for sale. There are other threads where it has been discussed at length in anticipation.
Nothing against Arny or the F760 reissue. Just that I clicked on this thread expecting to see it available, but it's just more anticipation......

Sorry about the delay, but have been very busy completing the Helios F760 Re-issue, as well as the Helios 500 Series Sweep EQ, but we now have 50 units ready to go out to our various distributors, but one thing we discovered only yesterday by Paul at Millbrook NY, who kindly offered to test one for us, and was also the person who suggested that we re-issue them a long time ago.

When Paul went to fit them into his VK racks it was discovered that the receptical was not quite right, so we have had to modify the 50 before we can release them, as well as the production version will of course have these changes

As it is I also sent my own personal lunchbox to another great engineer in NY who has also requested theseshould be put back in the Market, and he is also very used to using an original F760, so will come back with his report sometime next week.

Like all our products, we don't just rely on one persons views, these like our Helios Type-69 mic-Pre c/w Olympic EQ, these have been listened to, by many Engineer/Producers before we finally decide they are spot-on. the original.

I would suggest you now contact your country's distributor or us direct, to be sure of receiving one of the standards from this first batch.

It will be about another 4-5 weeks before the 500 series is ready, which will only take up one space.

For those who might be interested Paul and several other engineers are now testing out Helios Type-69 with a + 10dB booster piggy-back PCB, on board.
The PCB for this update will be free if your wish to fit your own components etc.
We can supply it also as a kit for which there will be a small (Trade price) charge, we can also supply the PCB fully populated with its components.

This booster amp is totally discrete and, is of Richard's original Helios Design, including the components as R.S never liked the Type-69 when a transformer was used to boost the output.
It is adjustable via a pre-set from "0" to +10dB

Helios Electronics Ltd have always had a great respect for the work & designs that were brought out by AD&R, so much so they used to share the same stand at various exhibitions AES, APRS etc.

Although both have the same part name i.e. F760, the two are quite different in many ways but do arrive at the same finish line, these differences have been noticeable by many Engineer/Producers, so much so many find it nice to have both versions.
I have two 2U Compex's and 2 X Vocal Stressors, as well as several "N" versions of both, but I do use my Helios F700's and F760's more often.

And what is good news today, is that both the Compex and our Helios F760 are now available new today.

So the idea is that this is a component-level faithful reissue of the original while the Helios is a new product with what Helios regards as an improved design?

I'm asking plainly/earnestly, not facetiously. I really don't know the history of this thing at all.

I'm trying to understand the situation.

Dear Silver,
No they are almost exactly the same, except on the Compex, you also have an Expander/Gate, both companies made the same item with subtle differences since it started, it was then known as the F600, it then went through various changes and was then named the F700, and finally it became the F760, but in all models the Helios had certain changes and differences .

The one that is most obvious is the Attack Control, while the AD&R has A 3 pole switch, allowing three choices, the Helios has a 6 pole Rotary, therefore allowing 6 choices, this and many other component changes that were made by Helios.

By the way I should make it clear , we not bringing out a new item we are re-issuing the original Helios version of the F760, it is exactly the same as the original even the two main PCB's are identical and can be used to replace an original, we decided to improve the meter and the cosmetics in general as well as the high standard of build quality for which we known for these days.

You have to go by your ears, and what they tell you, if you have owned or used a AD&R Compex, then it should be the Compex you decide to purchase, if you are used to the sound of a Helios F760, the compex will not replace it although only about 50% of engineers would observe the difference.

Tim is an Top-Class engineer and without any doubt whatsoever, he has come up with an excellent product with his version of the Compex, and I have to say, very good value for money.

But one has to beg the question why are engineers paying so much money for an original Helios F600, or F700, and are seeking the very rare Helios F760. yet they own a Compex.

But the EQ is so amazing!

I agree... How can you not want both the pre and eq!

The EQ is so funky and is just a PLEASURE to use.

Something truly magic at 2.8 and 3.5... And the 10K shelf... And what a brilliant sounding HPF... And 250hz on a bass sounds killer...

Just fun to use cause you can crank the eq and use your ears without often later thinking "uh oh... I pushed it too much".

Though considering John K has owned and sold like 12 Helios reissues Im sure he knows...

I've always liked the pre more than the eq...I don't do much boosting of eq at all...

I'm excited for the release of the 500 series version of this.

Should be in a couple of weeks, right?
