SQ Rack with 16 inputs for mons - sharing inputs with foh
DX168 on stage for additional inputs (foh only)
SQ5 connected to SQ-Rack and DX168 at foh
I understand that I can couple SQ Rack with SQ5, but can I use a further DX168?
You can do what you’re saying above, but you will need to buy an Slink expansion card (if I understood correctly what your idea is).
But let’s start with some information..
I’d suggest to primarly use the DX168, because the preamps are better than the ones in the physical console (at least the SQ, don’t know if in the SQ rack they mount the SQ console preamps or the DX168).
Also another option since you’ll share the gain structure anyway (unless you buy some mic splitters, which I’d personally prefer), is to get only one console (whatever you want).. and IF you’ll use less than 24 channels, you can copy the first 24 channels into the 25-48 “virtual” channels that the console is capable of mixing. There you can have a totally different processing and levels (obviously)..
So you basically split the console in two, and you could use a tablet for mixing the monitors, using the 2-3 layers you might need.. so you can save quite a bit of money that way.
I hope this helps,
