Well, there is a lot to pay attention to, and there are certainly many places you mighta messed up on the re-render. Or not, tough to say. But I can assure you after using PP for many many years, I am very happy with exactly that... re-render capability. It is very good in PP. Had to deal with this all the time for one client.
But you also could just hire out a video house to do it for you, and see if someone with a bit more experience could get better results that satisfy. If it's a really long video (you did say film), and gonna be expensive cause you got audio resyncing issues, audio edits, etc., then perhaps you might consider a recapture device setup. Or find someone a lot cheaper. Or get PP yourself and try it. Requires subscription to their services however, be warned. Works for me though. I got access to the entire suite for about 56 bucks a month. It is the ONLY thing I subscribe to in the A/V production world, cause I need it occasionally for videos on my YT channel. Powerful set of tools, for sure.
