Hi everyone! Following GS for quite a while and posting comments every now and then, this is my first own thread.

I've read the Preamp Recommendations Thread (SM7B Preamp Recommendations (ME-1NV, WA73, BAE 1073, etc)) with great curiosity but didn't want to hijack it.

I'm in a similar situation: SM7b for mainly rock / hardrock / metal vocals, 1U available rack space, so I want to go 1U Lunchbox. I have already ("almost certainly" ) decided on the Avedis MD7 as a preamp (would also use it for DI tracking) and now looking for suggestions to complete the chain.

What would you guys recommend putting into the second slot? Maybe an MA5 for that alternative flavour? A nice EQ to open up that top end? A compressor because it's the one thing (besides a preamp, obviously) that really shines in the analogue world?

(As it turns out to be quite difficult to find a 3 slot 1U chassis in Germany, I settled for the Fredenstein Bento 2. If anyone can recommend a 3 slot chassis that doesn't break the bank and is available around here, I'm thankful.)

Unfortunately, you do get what you pay for with the power supplies, and they do affect tone.

Yes, absolutely! However there's virtually nothing else available here and this one I could return without any hassle if it doesn't suit me. So unless I find something used it's a given for the moment.
