OK. I have been recording my band practices in M/S for a few months now. I get a great drum sound and the bass and guitar occupy their own space too.

I understand you should ideally use a mics with similar response to minimize unwanted frequency cancellation. I don't have really fancy mics, so it is fun to experiment with the mid mic and see what the different response does to the end result. I still have not tried an omni in the mid position.

What mics do you folks use? I have a CAD M179 (the only thing I have that does Fig 8) and have favored lately a Joe Meek JM-47 for mid. I have also tried a bunch of other cardioid and such (EV RE11, RE16, APEX 185...). Mics I still haven't tried (that I have access to) in the mid are RE20, SM57, EV635a, ATM25, and Bluebird.
