It's catastrophic that NI don't make numbered versions backwards compatible. Meaning: That Kontakt 7 won't open 6, 5, ... instances. Why?
1) Because as soon as they release a new version, they declare the older ones "vintage" and stop updating them. They only ever ported 7 to Apple Silicon with that reasoning - but 7 won't open your 6 instances. The latest Native Access won't authorise Intel plugins anymore. And so on. It's infuriating.
2) At the very least you'd think you get free access to all older versions, but no - they won't even sell them to you anymore. When I wrote to support that I had no way of opening the Kontakt 6 channel strips I'd received from a collaborator (I had just bought an update from 5 to 7), they suggested looking for a 6 key on Ebay. No kidding.
That means that you'll involunarily lose the ability to open older projects as you left them in the future. It's horrible. No other plugin or ecosystem "works" like this.
Their suggested solution is: Bouncing all the Kontakt tracks to audio. Do they have any idea how impractical that is? Professionals end up with thousands of projects over the years. And then add something like Logic's "alternatives" to the picture. Are you going to open every alternative and create tons of redundant bounces, just in case? Ridiculous.
Hey folks - hopefully this might help. I am successfully able to open old Logic projects that used older Kontakt versions. Delete both the stand-alone old versions AND the components (obviously not the libraries) then restart the computer. Logic will now load your latest Kontakt version. Just loaded an old project from 2016 that used K5. I had to use Spotlight to re-find the library but that took just a couple of seconds and then worked fine.
Sounds like their tech support may not sadly, be up to speed. This method seems to be working for me.
Good luck!
