+1 on the UMC1820. It may not be as good as the Clarett 8Pre but it's still pretty great, especially at the price. I think they're like $250 or so. I paid the equivalent of $250 USD when I bought mine last year.

Are the pres in that Steinberg any better than the ones in the UR22? For the price I'm not a fan of the Steinbergs, though I will say I like that they actually give you a full 48v/8mA instead of 44v/6mA like some budget interfaces.
