I want to ask about the Malevolent Filter
I read it's a 2-pole multimode, but what kind?
Can you tell a bit more about the design?

So, The filter is an opto-FET controlled Sallen-Key design. It's quite simple but rather effective

We're all about creating new and interesting instruments with a unique sound. I wouldn't say I'm personally a connoisseur of filters especially but I get excited when something behaves in a weird and wonderful way.

On Malevolent we deliberately kept the filter raw and resonant - maybe overly so?... - you can be the judge of that!

But we feel we've made something that doesn't sound quite like anything else in terms of the filter and the overall instrument. In terms of sonic palette that's what a lot of music-makers are looking for - something that is new and exciting.

What can I tell you about the new products - well, not much, but in terms of filters yes, they will have filters totally different to the Malevolent, based on different designs but guaranteed to sound great!

Hi Paul,

I was happy to read you are using 2-pole Sallen-Keys, I built an EQ out of those one time

May I ask, why do you use opto-FET to control them?
Also an even more technical question: have you ever considered using a JFET instead of a potentiometer? It has the resistive characteristic and I would be really curious if someone using it this way
