This library involves an 18″ Zildjian Spiral Trash Cymbal and if played as a normal cymbal, it has a very bright, toppy tonality… But by using contact mics the bottom end of the spectrum is augmented a lot! And with decay dampened the scope of use is also expanded… So I explored every way I could think of to generate sounds with it – from simple trashy crash sounds, drops, rolls, bowed & struck with different mallets & decay dampening… All while recording to six tracks: Trance Audio contact mics x2 on the bell of the cymbal plus Sanken CUX100K x2 stereo and Sennheiser MKH8040 x2 stereo

I spent over three years collecting springs, and then mounting each spring in a way that it could freely resonate under tension. The first output from the collection was the Impulse Response library: IR005 SPRINGS Over the last four months I have been recording the spring collection and am both excited & relieved to finish & release this new library of SPRING IMPACT sounds, which explores a range of percussive hits.



The springs range from very short small diameter (130mm x 15mm) through to very long (2800mm x20mm) with decay up to 25 seconds. Hits were performed with hard mallet: full free sustain, then damped, and then very damped – the latter providing meaty solid metal impacts.

To add interesting pitch, I also captured hits with a metal bridge attached to the spring. These work almost like a tongue drum – the ‘prongs’ generating pitch, which is transmitted into the spring. Struck with a hard mallet they ring out beautifully, but struck with a soft mallet they instantly created unique subtle stings.

In a few cases (the huge auger springs, thunder drum) I also captured handling, movement and some friction moves – the auger with threaded rods woven through them, sounds massive when wrangled!

These are very useful, powerful sounds applicable to elements of practical effects but equally applicable for designed sounds, stings & impacts as well as musical percussive elements.



Captured 192kHz 32bit with a pair of Trance Audio Arcturus Contact Mics, every setup was a challenge to cleanly capture the vibrations without dampening resonance, while avoiding buzzy rattles.

Released 24 bit 96kHz with photos of each setup and full UCS metadata.

Cicadas”SEMI” were collected with sensitivity and attention to detail, utilizing OMNI and XY & ORTF microphone setups to ensure optimal sound quality.
This approach allowed for diverse recordings from various locations across Japan, highlighting the richness of their natural environment.
Combining the XY & ORTF sound sources produces middle and side effects.
Recorded @ 24bit 96kHz and carefully edited.

I'm subscribed to the BOOM ONE Library and it's download only. I sort of wish there were also searchable portal, because the library is massive, and I'm having real trouble downloading it. Even though I have a very fast and solid internet connection, the download times are extremely slow.

I'm wondering if other BOOM ONE users also experience slow DL times

I didn’t know what purpose this tool served when I found it, but the heavy clanking sound appealed thanks to its solid metal construction, weighing over 20kg. Turns out it is a “Twitch Load Binder – Lever Type, with Cradle Hooks” which are used to leverage and secure large cargo items when shipping via truck, ship etc… But regardless of its providence, it is capable of some heavy duty clanking!

The first recording session involved freely held clanks, hits, shakes and movement, as well as suspending it on bungy cords & attaching a few rattly metal clamps for variation.

Similar actions were also performed on a heavy wood surface, and then on concrete.

This heavy metal pipe was rescued from OVERFLOW junk store and was originally a section of pipe from a well, accessed by farms for both drinking water & irrigation.

Suspended this pipe 'rings like a bell' and accordingly was played using:
- soft woven mallet
- heavy rubber mallet
- hard wood mallet
- metal percussion mallet

Multiple full ring outs were captured with each mallet, as well as dampened variations.

Hello everyone.

My first sound library Delirium has now officially arrived!

It's a toolkit of strange drones, textures, florps, swumps and squelches. Almost entirely created in Madrona Labs SUMU, it is very much a synth-heavy trip out designed for hallucinations, hypnotic trances, dream sequences and generally weird situations.

It is also quite fun to hide them in very normal, literal scenes if you're feeling mischievous enough. These sounds are versatile and can be cleverly disguised if handled by a responsible grown up.

Each one of the 454 individual sounds is marked and named as a WAVE and Radium region in the 50 takes that represent complete wolf phrases.

Gale force NorWest Winds recorded gusting around a dome covered radar station, surrounded by concrete walls & a chain link fence. Two transmission aerials sitting out, exposed to the wind were also recorded, along with two sets of power wires on the access road.

This new library captures a dozen different workshop air tools.
Each tool was operated handheld - revs, short runs, sustained - at a range of speeds as the compressor's air tank slowly emptied. 
Classic whirrs were performed with high pressure while some uniquely idiosyncratic sounds were to be had with very low pressure.
Two resonators were also used - wood & metal - to both scale the sound via a LOM Geofon, and to provide a surface for grinds & moves.
