i've been on ns10s and proac studio 100s for two decades now. closer to 40 years using ns10s...since i was a kid.

i recently worked in a room with the barefoot footprint 01 monitors and was honestly blown away. they sounded great....tons of low end and the roughs i did quickly translated so well to the car and outside world.

i've also mixed a lot on atc20. the older metal case versions. i loved the detail and imaging.

it's time to upgrade and get one set of monitors i can rely on in my room and take to to other rooms when i work there.

i'd love a pair of the barefoot mm26/27, just can't drop that much $$.

seriously considering a used pair of mm35 or footprint 01, but have also found a great deal on used pair of active atc scm20.

just looking for input from folks who have used barefoot and atc.

the atc 20 i remember had a pretty steep roll off similar to my proacs. the barefoots seemed to go down to the 30hz range.

i really would love one monitor that gets me full range without a sub being involved.

have read thru a ton of threads. just curious for any new input from those who have worked on these speakers.

i mostly work on rock and singer songwriter kinda stuff. all real musicians playing the same room together. very little hip hop or EDM. but i do love low end.

would love to find something i can trust that also has some punch and volume and vibe for playback and for tracking in my control room.

ATCs don't give you enough low end. You'll need a sub.

I think the reason you felt the Footprint 01 was good is because its low end is somewhat cardioid (not real cardioid). With non-cardioid monitors or subs, the room’s influence on the low end is just too significant unless soffited, and there’s really no guarantee that things will translate well.

MM27 is not true cardioid either. If you’re looking for true cardioid behavior, the Kii is expensive but incredibly impressive in that regard. Large sofitted monitors are still the king.

Also, I think checking the low end with headphones is becoming more of a trend lately, so it might be worth considering that as well. Personally, I can get completely confident mixes using just Amphions and Audeze, and more and more people are doing the same.

these days im using my sub in my room mostly for vibe for the musicians when playing back or overdubbing.

i have some audeze phones as well and generally between using them and knowing how the ns10 woofers should be moving when i dont have too much low end...that's my process.

i just remember working on mm27s and being blown away by the low end i heard and what i heard in the car after mixing with them.

not familiar with the kii speakers, will have to check them out.

i've never had the chance to check out the larger atc monitors. just the scm20 and i did use a pair of the scm12 which seemed to have more low end for some reason...but also didnt feel as transparent in the mids.

Check out the new Kii 7.. you'd be doing yourself a disservice if you don't as they're great and i think much better than ATC SCM20's and have bottom for DAYS..

The 20s have a more unified image but, yeah, at the expense of the mid driver, which is basically the core ATC thing one might argue.

I personally moved on from ATC - was probably the one sheep like gear decision I've made in my career. I just find I always second guess things elsewhere and have to push things way more aggressively than seems necessary at the time to get the appropriate impact.
