I believe the Solina uses 12 top-octave oscillators with frequency dividers for the lower notes, just like an organ. The Behringer I'm sure replicates that so if one or more of the oscillators is out of tune, that would cause that. Whether that's the case or not, (or if it could even happen!), I couldn't say. Root and octave would, of course, always be in tune. Do you get the same beating no matter which two notes you play to get the 5th interval - i.e., C/G, A/E, etc?

Afaik Solina has only one master oscillator and divides down all notes in single octave from it and then divides down that octave notes. This system never goes out of relative tuning.

Aha, found the schematics online, and you're right! So the symptoms being described are really, really weird!

I'll have to figure out a way to record, and yes it does it in all roots tried. Listening to videos, I hear steady chordal drones with no wavering. Bummer! the beating isn't terrible but it is there. getting ready to return it and call this Solina experiment a bust! To bad. I wanted to pick up a Poly D too, but now I'm Leary. Bummer x 2

I've seen Solina prices as low as $220, new. If you love stringers and / or vintage sound, and you want some hardware, I think Solina is a must-buy. It is a beautiful time machine.

Just noticed something about the Bolina. It doesn't recreate the sustain suppression the original Solina has. That is, any new note(s) do not cut the previous note tails like the original does. I actually prefer the Bolina's behaviour - it's like a built in reverb - but I'm surprised that no one else has spotted this.

Has anyone with one of these taken it out of its housing and tried it in a eurorack setup?

Now, I'm not terribly knowledgeable at all when it comes to modular or eurorack so forgive my ignorance, but... how exactly would this module be triggered? It has trig and gate outs, but no ins? Granted the MIDI in jack would still be there on the front panel, but that kinda seems to defeat the purpose? Am I missing something glaringly obvious?

(I've been toying with the idea of mounting mine in a Niftykeyz, perhaps with a couple other smaller modules, to create a standalone Solina of sorts.)

Modular rack space is at a premium, the Solina will be staying in its own case. Unlike the Boog, Bro 1 and Kobal

All Behringer synths of this format have midi in on the front panel. Many mono synths also have cv/gate inputs. Still, there are a couple of mono synths that.have not. Putting a cv/gate input on a polyphonic synth like solina or pro-800 would be pretty pointless as you can not send them polyphonically and the synth would only be used as mono. To be able to use solina polyphonically you need to control it via midi.

thank you for testing. I haven't tried my mid-2000's Small Stone with the B Solina yet. I haven't felt the need, because its internal phaser sounds perfect. Good to know in advance that the noise level is even lower.

About the ensemble effect, I recorded a softsynth through it, but twice. Once for the left channel (as softsynths are stereo in general), and once for the right channel. The result is fantastic. It's really a good ensemble/chorus. So good that I'm thinking about getting a second B Solina, just for the ensemble effect for stereo sources. To save time and effort, not having to record twice, export the mono tracks to an editor, combine them to a stereo file, and import to DAW. And for pre-listen. I only know how it sounds after recording. With pre-listen I can judge immediately.

In the context of one note vs. many notes a synth can play simultaneously it is polyphony we are talking about. Not paraphony.

Well we could potentially have a mod with a gate input to run the envelope and control the pitch with MIDI.

I accidentally plugged my Solina into a 25V adapter, and now it’s not working… who knew!? 😅 Does anyone here know what I can do to fix it? I noticed that the input socket on the PCB is just a direct connection to the ribbon cable.
